Biography
Andrés Alfredo Bigé was born on 28 January 1924 in Quitilipi, Chaco, Argentina. His parents, Alfredo and Lucía, were French immigrants who decided to return to their country of origin in 1931. Andrés travelled back with them and lived in St. Denis, France, under German occupation. He was arrested by the Stapo from Berlin and deported to Buchenwald on 30 November 1944, apparently for his involvement in the French Resistance. Although he was an Argentinean citizen by birth, he was registered there as a French political prisoner under the serial number 61038. On 21 December 1944 he was transferred to the Auschwitz concentration camp complex and from there to Gross-Rosen. He was transferred once more, this time to Mauthausen on 15 February 1945 where he was registered under the serial number 127532. He died on 21 April 1945 at the Mauthausen hospital. His death certificate includes the reference “mort pour la France”.
