Biography
Camille Israel was born on 16 May 1910 in Luxembourg. He was a bookkeeper and fled on the day of the German invasion, on 10 May 1940, to France. There he lived in Montignac-sur-Vézère (department of Dordogne). While attempting to flee to Switzerland he was detained and taken to the Drancy transit camp. On 3 February 1944 he was deported to Auschwitz on transport no. 67. After the ‘evacuation’ of Auschwitz concentration camp he arrived at Mauthausen on 25 January 1945 and some days later at the Ebensee subcamp. He died there on 29 April 1945, a few days before the liberation of the camp.
