Biography
Michel Scholtes, a lathe operator and metalworker, was born on 14 May 1906 in Kopstal (Luxembourg). He lived there with his wife, Irmine Hensel, and two children. He had been an active trade unionist and was an active member of the Lëtzeburger Roude Léiw (Luxembourgish Red Lion, LRL). On 15 February 1943 he was arrested for ‘activities hostile to the Reich’ and taken to Grund jail. On 22 February 1943 he arrived at the Hinzert concentration camp. Via Wittlich and the Rodgau-Dieburg prison camp he arrived at Mauthausen concentration camp on 13 January 1945. One month later he was transferred to the Gusen II subcamp. He died there on 5 May 1945, on the day camp was liberated.
