Biography
Balaew was second lieutenant and platoon commander of the 65th tank regiment, 12th Guards Rifle Corps. On 28 May 1943, in command of a tank T-34 with the objective to seize the village Onufrievo, Novgorod region, carrying infantry, he did pass in the wire fence, broke into the village and destroyed three bunker, four guns and about 15 Nazis. He was considered a hero who died along with the tank, in connection with what was posthumously awarded the Order of the Patriotic War 1st degree. However, he did not die in battle, and was taken as a prisoner.
