Zachariasz Lesz was the son of Szmuel Jakob Lesz and Ruchla Laja Lesz. Zachariasz’s true name was Szbasia Zachariasz Lesz, b. 28 May 1892 in Petrikau, Polen. He was an uncle to Jack Budkowski of Lodz, Poland. Zachariasz’s son, Peisach Lesz, also died in Melk concentration camp.
