Biography
The printer Philippe Marquis was born on 18 July 1895 in Luxembourg. He lived with his wife, Marguerite Grethen, and their three children in Weimershof. On 14 July 1944 the whole family was forced to ‘relocate’ to the Boberstein camp in Silesia. However, Philippe Marquis was arrested on board the train, having been deemed responsible for the ‘desertion’ of his two sons. Interned initially in Grund jail, on 9 September 1944 – one day before the liberation of Luxembourg – he was deported to Dachau concentration camp. A few days later he was sent on to Mauthausen and finally to the Melk subcamp. He died there on 27 February 1945.
