Biography

Raymond François Louis Colongo born on 23 November 1911 in Aix-les-Bains, Son of Quinto Colongo and Catherine, Joséphine Aprile (both Italian emigrants). Married to Léontine, Marie, Hélène Catelin(born on 29/03/1911 – died on 07/03/1946) Father of 3 children: Monique (born 1934), Liliane (born 1939) and Michel Colongo (born 1941) Mechanic-Automobile at Renault then at the SNCF (French National Railways), he lives in Ambilly (Haute-Savoie, France).

Joined the french resistance, Raymond Louis Colongo becomes second lieutenant of the company FTP 93.03 under the orders of André Allombert. He was arrested by the G.M.R militia in Thorens on February 23, 1944 while he was convoying a «traitor» with another resistant, nicknamed Jungo. He was held at the Dessaix barracks, called “the intendance” in Annecy, where he was atrociously tortured before being sent to the Saint-Paul prison in Lyon.

On 29 June 1944, he was deported to the Dachau concentration camp under the number 76174, then he was transferred to the Mauthensen camp under the number 89297. He died there on March 29, 1945.

His name appears on the plaque affixed by the voluntary fighters of the resistance to the depot of the SNCF (French National Railways) in Annemasse and on the war memorial of Ambilly (Haute-Savoie, France) with the only name Louis.
