Born 11.6.1900 in Brunete
Died 8.10.1941 in Gusen

Biography

Aureliano Caumel Sanchez was secretary of the union of the Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT) in his hometown Brunete (Madrid) and member of the Red Committee of Criminal Investigation. During the first months of the civil war, the Committee participated in robberies, looting of all kinds of food from the houses of right-wing people. They prepared a list of 86 people whom they tried to kill, not having carried out murders because they were taken by the National Army. It is believed that he participated in the murder of six people from the town, including the mayor, a right-wing councilor and a secretary of the town hall.

At the end of the Spanish Civil War, he fled to France like many other Spaniards who fought for the Republic not to be captured and to avoid repression.
In the summary trial of Brunete’s case, he pleaded guilty and in rebellion for having fled to France.
