Biography
Born on 7 September 1914 in Caldes de Montbui, son of Josep Catafau and Maria Rabadà Grimau. He had four siblings: Jaume, Miquel, Maria and Frederic. He worked as a driver and he was single. He used to live in 101 Pi i Maragall Street in Caldes de Montbui. He enlisted as volunteer the first days of the Civil War and he went to the Aragon front with the Macià-Companys Column. Catafau withdrew to France and he was interned in the Sant Cebrià camp. He became a military and was sent to the 8th Foreign Workers Company where he was taken prisoner by Germans in Belfort Sector and sent to that city’s fronstalag. From Belfort he was brought to the XI-B Fallingbostel Stalag. A few weeks later he was deported to Mauthausen, where he arrived on 27 January 1941. His tragedy ended in Gusen, where he was sent on 8 April. He was registered number 11890. According to registration of deaths in Mauthausen/Gusen, he died on 22 November 1941 at 10:00 pm in the same camp, where he had been registered as driver («Kraftfahrer»).
