Died 28.11.1941 in Gusen
Biography
Isidre Donadeu Buixalleu was born on March 15, 1918 in Sant Hilari Sacalm (la Selva, Girona). During the Spanish Civil War, he was part of the local Anti-Fascist Revolutionary Committee, defending the Republic. At the end of the war, he went into exile in France, where he was captured during the Nazi occupation.
He was deported to the Mauthausen concentration camp, where he was assigned the registration number 3809. Later, he was transferred to the Gusen subcamp, known for its extreme conditions. Although the exact date of entry into the camps is not known, it is estimated that it was between late 1940 and early 1941. He died in Gusen on November 28, 1941, at the age of only 23.
His brother, Narcís Donadeu Buixalleu, was also deported and died in Gusen on May 3, 1941. Both are part of the 1,582 Catalans murdered in Nazi camps, victims of repression and their fight against fascism.
Their story is a testament to the anti-fascist commitment and suffering of many Catalans deported during World War II.
