Biography

In 1944 Bogusław Dąbrowski was 35 years old and left his wife and his two young sons. He used to work in the stocking factory in Warsaw. After the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising on 1 August 1944 (in the left-bank side of Warsaw), one day in August, German soldiers began to walk in Praga Polnoc (the right-bank side of Warsaw) from house by house shouting that all men must go out to the street with shovels or spades for voluntarily earthworks. However, after that they checked each flat if there was not any man left. After some time, his younger son Romuald (8 years old) and his older brother Leszek (12 years old) went to the nearest main street (11 Listopada) and saw from the distance what was happening with their father and other men. All men marched under the German soldiers guard towards the nearest street. They saw a huge number of men at the barracks set in groups of four men and guarded by armed German soldiers with a lot of dogs. After a few days, people said that some men where moved to the nearest school from which were moved to a German Nazi camp located somewhere.
