Biography
Louis Ernest Berr was born in Toul on 15 September 1912 and served in the French army during World War II. He was married to Lea, a citizen of Argentina, and they had a little boy, Alain, born in 1942. They all lived in Nancy, France, under German occupation. All three were arrested by the Gestapo on 28 February 1944, interned in Écrouves and then transferred to Drancy on 1 April 1944. From there they were deported in transport number 71 to Auschwitz on 13 April 1944. Lea and Alain were gassed on arrival but Louis was selected as a forced labourer. He was assigned to Sosnowice labour camp. He was later transferred to Mauthausen, where he was registered under the prisoner number 25202. He was then transferred to Gusen, where he died on 4 April 1945.
