Biography

Edward Nowak was born on 13 December 1913 in Sosnowiec, Poland. He worked at the coal mine “Zbyszek” in Trzebinia. He was married with four sons, and his wife Matylda was pregnant with his daughter, while he was arrested and sent to the concentration camp in Auschwitz-Birkenau on 23 February 1944, as a political prisoner. On 6 December 1945, he was moved to the concentration camp Mauthausen-Gusen, where he died on 4 April 1945, only four weeks before the camp was liberated. He orphaned five children between the age of eight and one year.
