Biography

Georgios Drakos Xylouris was Drakos and Sofia Xylouris' only child. He was arrested by the German authorities in February 1942 because he offered food to Nikolaos Vidakis or Tsikalas at location Vigla. Germans had outlawed N. Vidakis as co-leader of the Greek Resistance team Satanas. Emmanouil Konstantis Vidakis was also arrested together with Georgios Drakos Xylouris and they were both led to the gate Makasi of the Venetioan walls of Heraklion at first and later to the prisons in Agia in Chania. They were imprisoned until summer 1943 and later relocated without trial, together with other 40 prisoners to Belgrade for about six months until finally being relocated to the Mauthausen camp. According to survivor Pirasmakis' (number 38326) testimony, a doctor, with number 38256, gave him an injection on daily basis which after caused him a sensation of burn through his body, afterwards his skin turned red and he had high fever. Finally, after some period of time, his skin turned yellowish and he was just skin and bones. He was chosen by a medical committee and led to the gas chambers. His parents, Drakos and Sofia, died shortly after each other in 1946 from grief as they had lost their only child who was only 21 years old.
