Bronisław Warczak 1922 - 1944 Edit

Born 25.3.1922 in Struga
Died 9.5.1944 in Ebensee

Biography

In August 1943 Bronisław was arrested at the mill where he worked as a miller. He had 7 siblings. His entire family (parents and siblings, except for his brother Antoni) were arrested that day and deported to various locations. His father Józef was the only one in the village who did not sign the so-called Volkslist, he repaired shoes for Polish partisans because he was a shoemaker, and his wife Anna often shared food with the partisans. According to a family story, it was neighbours who denounced Józef to the German authorities. Anna and two daughters (Lidia and Helena) were sent to Potulice camp (a German labor camp near Nakło, Kujawsko-Pomorskie province). Piotr and Franciszek, Bronisław's brothers, were taken to the German Trampenau camp (Trampowo near Nowy Staw, now Pomeranian province). Antoni, Bronislaw's brother, managed to escape arrest, but turned himself in to the Nazis, as they threatened to kill his mother and sisters. For helping partisans he was sent to German KL Stutthof (Sztutowo, near Nowy Dwór Gdański, Pomeranian province)

Józef, father of Bronisław (19.01.1885 Ostrowite - 29.11.1943) was executed in Neubau Prison in Königsberg by decapitation on a guillotine for collaboration with partisans against the "Third German Reich". Unfortunately, we do not have a letter notifying us of this execution today, apparently a letter notification came - but we do not know how to confirm this as of today. Struga residents remembered this story, as it was meant to serve as a warning to those who would help the partisans.
