Stefan Błochowiak 1890 - 1941 Edit

Born 23.12.1890 in Innowrocław
Died 20.8.1941 in Hartheim

Biography

Sadly, we never got to meet our grandfather Stefan Blochowiak. All we have are photos and personal documents prior to WW II, letters written to his family from concentration camps, and a few other official documents.

Stefan was a confectioner, among others, in Berlin-Friedrichshain. He and his wife Aniela worked hard to give their five children a decent life and a good education.

We shall remember him and his outlook of a brighter future together with his family, as indicated in his Curriculum Vitae below, written in circa 1933/35:

Curriculum Vitae

I was born on 23 December 1890 in Inowrocław to Wojciech Błochowiak and Waleria née Weber.

In the sixth year of my life I started attending primary school, in which I passed eight grades.

At the age of fourteen, as soon as I left school, I went to learn from a master in confectionary, Mr Wróblewski in Inowrocław, with whom I spent three years as an apprentice.

After my apprenticeship, I worked in various companies in Poznań, Bydgoszcz and Berlin in well-known and respected firms in order to familiarise myself with and further develop my skills.

At the age of 23, I married Aniela Krajewska from Inowrocław in Berlin.

Three years later I became independent as a trader in Berlin, running a confectionery warehouse and factory.

When the Polish State came into being, I sold my business and in 1919 I returned to Inowrocław.

In the same year, I established a candy and gingerbread factory on Krolowej Jadwigi Street.

After seven years, I was forced to close it, among other things due to a loan that had ruined me through devaluation.

After three months, I started working again and making sweets, but due to a lack of cash, after two years of effort I had to liquidate the company.

After the closure of this company, I worked as an insurance agent for one year at the Krakow Insurance Company.

I am currently unemployed.

Stefan Błochowiak

Stefan kept up his good spirit even until 2 August 1941, the day he was murdered in a gas chamber. A spirit we will all carry forward.
