Biography

René Lhuillier was born on 22 April 1899 in Pexonne, Lorraine, France. He worked as a labourer. He and his son were among the 112 hostages who were captured during the raid on Sunday, 27 August 1944 in the village of Pexonne by the unit known as Kommando Wenger (of the German Security Service or SD). After being taken to the Haxo barracks in Baccarat, he was deported first to the Natzweiler concentration camp (with prisoner number 26849) then, on 2 September 1944, to Dachau concentration camp and finally, on 4 September 1944 to Mauthausen concentration camp, from where he was transferred to the Melk subcamp. He died on 22 November 1944 at the age of 45.
