Aquilino Mandelli 1908 - 1945 Edit

Aquilino Mandelli was born in Milan on 23 September 1908, son of Natale Ambrogio Mandelli and Anita Viltori. On 19 October 1933 he married Oddone Virginia and the couple had one son, Giorgio. Aquilino worked in Caproni as mechanic, and it was there that he started his partisan activity. First by printing anti-fascist leaflets and then sabotaging the planes produced by Caproni. Captured on 18 October 1943 in Olgiate Olona on charges of sabotage, he has been imprisoned in San Vittore. Virginia and Giorgio managed to see him when the prisoners were transported to the public showers. Occasionally a German jailer would allow Giorgio to see his father. Aquilino and other prisoners organized an escape, Virginia was ready to run away with him and his son, but he never arrived. Only one prisoner managed to escape and the Germans had participated in a retaliation on his family. For this reason, Aquilino wasn’t tempted by the escape anymore. He was deported to a concentration camp. He arrived in Mathausen on 21 February 1944. First serial number 53418: classified as a „Schutzhäftling“, declared as mechanic. He moved to Schwechat-Florisdorf (Mauthausen) and then to Gusen (Mauthausen). From there he sent two letters: in the first one there was some hope to see his family again but in the last one, on 17 February 1944, there is the farewell to his family.

Aquilino Mandelli nasce a Milano il 23 Settembre 1908, figlio di Natale Ambrogio Mandelli e Anita Viltori. Il 19 Ottobre 1933 sposa Oddone Virginia e la coppia avrà un solo figlio, Giorgio. Operaio della Caproni, ed è qui che inizia la sua attivitá di partigiano. Dapprima stampando volantini antifascisti e poi sabotando gli aerei prodotti in Caproni. Catturato il 18 Ottobre 1943 a Olgiate Olona con l’accusa di sabotaggio viene incarcerato a San Vittore. Virginia e Giorgio riescono avederlo di sfuggita quando I detenuti venivano trasportati ai bagni pubblici. Occasionalmente un carceriere Tedesco permetteva a Giorgio di vedere suo padre.

Aquilino e altri carcerati organizzano una fuga, Virginia e’ pronta per scappare con lui e suo figlio, ma lui non arriverá mai. Solo un carcerato riesce a fuggire e i tedeschi iniziano a fare ritorsioni sulla famiglia cosi’ Aquilino non tenterá mai piu’ la fuga. Verrá deportato in un campo di concentramento. Giunge a Mauthausen il 21 Febbraio 1944. Primo numero di matricola 53418: classificato come categoria „Schutz“. Mestiere dichiarato meccanico. Dapprima è trasferito a Schwechat-Florisdorf (Mauthausen) poi a Gusen (Mauthausen). Solo due lettere sono sopravvisute: nella prima c’e’ ancora la forza della speranza di rivedere la sua famiglia ma nell’ultima del 17 Febbraio 1944 c’e’ solo un addio.

Morto nel lager di Gusen l'8 Marzo 1945 dopo essere andato in infermeria per un rash cutaneo, persone che erano con lui in quei giorni dissero che era cosciente di andare a morire, non riusciva piu’ a sostenere la situazione. L’11 Aprile del 1945 il campo viene liberato.

Aquilino Mandelli wurde am 23. September 1908 als Sohn von Natale Ambrogio Mandelli und Anita Viltori in Mailand geboren. Am 19. Oktober 1933 heiratete er Oddone Virginia und das Paar hatte einen Sohn, Giorgio. Er arbeitete als Mechaniker bei Caproni und wurde dort auch als Partisan aktiv. Zuerst durch das Drucken von antifaschistischen Flugblättern und später durch Sabotage der bei Caproni gefertigten Flugzeuge. Er wurde am 18. Oktober 1943 in Olgiate Olona verhaftet, der Sabotage beschuldigt und in das Gefängnis San Vittore gebracht. Virginia und Giorgio gelang es, ihn zu sehen, wenn die Häftlinge zu den öffentlichen Duschen gebracht wurden. Gelegentlich ermöglichte auch ein deutscher Aufseher, dass Giorgio seinen Vater sehen konnte. Aquilino und die anderen Häftlinge schmiedeten Fluchtpläne und Virginia war bereit mit ihm und dem gemeinsamen Sohn zu fliehen, aber Aquilino kam nicht. Nachdem einem Häftling die Flucht gelungen war, ergriffen die Deutschen Vergeltungsmaßnahmen gegen seine Familie. Aus diesem Grund verzichtete Aquilino auf jeden Fluchtversuch. Er wurde in ein Konzentrationslager deportiert. Er kam am 21. Februar 1944 in Mauthausen an. Seine erste Häftlingsnummer war 53418. Er wurde als Schutzhäftling eingestuft, die Berufsbezeichnung war Mechaniker. Zuerst wurde er in die KZ-Außenlager Schwechat und Floridsdorf überstellt und danach nach Gusen verlegt. Von dort schickte er zwei Briefe: im ersten hoffte er noch, seine Familie wiederzusehen; im letzten Brief vom 17. Februar 1944 verabschiedete er sich von ihnen.
