Biography

Hermann Karrasch was born in Bolejny (deutsch: Bolleinen), Kreis Osterode, to parents Johann Karrasch and Eva, née Grybowski. Johann Karrasch was an Eigenkätner in Bolleinen. He served in World War One in the 2nd Prussian Guards Foot Regiment who were sent to the Western Front. He was hospitalised in March 1918 with gas poisoning. He was then transferred to Flieger-Beobachter Schule West where he was again hospitalised on October 1918 due to an inflammation of the left foot.

Hermann Karrasch married Anna Marie, née Engel in 1932 in Wittmansdorf, Kreis Osterode, and they had three children: Elizabeth, Margaret Melita and Horst Werner (my Opa).

He was deported to Mauthausen by the Königsberg Kripo on 17 December 1942, transferred to Gross-Ramming on 14 January 1943. On 8 September 1944, he was transferred to St. Valentin and died there on 23 March 1945 during an air raid.
