Biography

After completing primary school in Zabrzeg, Ludwik Wrzoł attended a German grammar school in Bielsko. He studied philosophy and theology in the Czech town of Vidnava. In 1910 he obtained a doctorate in divinity there. In 1904, he also began his pastoral work in Vidnava. He transferred from there as a catechist to Bielsko, where he also worked as an examiner and lecturer in sociology at the state grammar school.

In 1910 he became professor of philosophy; from 1933 to 1938 he was rector of the Department of Theology in Vidnava. He had been part of the Polish national movement since his youth. While still a student he was president of the Kołko Polskiego (Polish Circle) seminary. He made a great contribution to upholding the Polish spirit in Zaolzie. During the Nazi occupation he was administrator of the Ligota parish in the Bielsko district. On 12 May 1940 he was arrested and interned in the Gestapo prison in Cieszyń, Sosnowiec. On 26 May 1940 he was sent to the Dachau concentration camp, where he was given prisoner number 12368. Subsequently, on 2 August 1940, he was transported to the Gusen concentration camp, where he died of exhaustion on 30 September 1940 in the camp infirmary.
