Biography

José Aragón Muñoz was born in Murcia (Spain) on 19 April 1904. Around 1927 he arrived in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, in the province of Barcelona (Spain), where his siblings Juana and Antonio had arrived years before. He was married to Fuensanta Medina Olano and they had four children: Antonio, Domingo, Carmen and Josefina.

A member of the CNT-FAI (Confederación Nacional del Trabajo; Federación Anarquista Ibérica), he went to France at the end of the Spanish Civil War and joined the 109th CTE (Compañía de Trabajadores Extranjeros/Compagnie de travailleurs étrangers), a division in charge of fortifying the Maginot Line in the Vosges. During the German invasion, he was captured and deported to Stalag XI B in Fallingbostel (Germany), where he was registered as number 86917. From there he was sent to the Mauthausen concentration camp, where he was registered as number 6218 on 27 January 1941. He was transferred to the Gusen subcamp (prisoner  number 12083), and died on 30 July 1941.
