Biography

Stanisław Renz was born on 24 April 1894 in Bednary (Poznań poviat), son of Michał and mother Józefina, née Firlejkowa.

He graduated from the elementary school in Wronczyn.

Until the age of 18, he studied music with private teachers in Poznań.

In 1912 he was drafted into the German army.

He took part in World War I on the Eastern and Western Front.

He was wounded at Arras (France).

He was awarded an iron cross of the 2nd class.

In mid-December 1918, he volunteered for the Polish army in Poznań.

He is called up to the 2nd garrison battalion in Poznań.

On 22 January 1919, he joined the 15th Field Artillery Regiment.

He fought on the Bobruisk front.

After returning to the garrison, he started organizing the orchestra of the 15th field artillery regiment.

In 1924 he graduated from the state music conservatory.

In 1927 he was transferred to the 7th Mounted Rifle Regiment as the head of a military orchestra.

He obtains a diploma of a military bandmaster.

 

Polish decorations:

- a commemorative medal for the war of 1918-21

- a commemorative medal of the 10th anniversary of regaining independence

- a medal for many years of service

- golden cross for merits

 

In 1939, as the bandmaster of the 7th Mounted Rifle Regiment, he took part in the Battle of Bzura.

He fought in Warsaw as a defender and, after capitulation, was captured and killed in the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp in 1942. Thus, his three sons Stanisław, Kazimierz and Tadeusz became orphans.
