Giacomo Sala 1895 - 1945 Edit

Giacomo Sala, my maternal grandfather, was born in Agrate. He was incarcerated in San Vittore during March 1944. He was deported to Mauthausen on 17 March 1944 and arrived there on 20 March 1944. He was registered in the KL under the number 59116. He was transferred to Gusen KL where died on 1 February 1945.

Deported following the strikes of 1943 in the northern factories in particular in Milan and Turin, my grandfather worked in fact at Breda di Sesto San Giovanni from where about 360 workers were deported. According to the documents in my possession he was part of the Diomede Brigade with the union activists in Breda of section 1. Therefore, he was arrested by the fascist secret police as a partisan or troublemaker, jailed in San Vittore in Milan and then deported to Mauthausen and later to in Gusen I, where probably he worked as a skilled worker in the production plants. He was housed in barrack no. 8, as we have known consulting the Mauthausen Memorial archive (death registers of the sickbay in Gusen), and where he was together with other Italian inmates, especially Lodovico Barbiano di Belgiojoso and Ettore Galimberti. Barbiano di Belgioioso returned in Italy and wrote books on his experience in the lager and on his fellow inmates. One of them was Giacomo Sala.

Nonno materno Sala Giacomo Nato a Agrate. Incarcerato a San Vittore nel periodo del Marzo 1944. Deportato a Mauthausen con trasporto del 17.3.1944 e arrivo il 20.3.1944 con Matricola lager 59116 e ivi deceduto il 1.2.1945.

Deportato In seguito agli scioperi del 1943 nelle fabbriche del nord in particolare a Milano e Torino, il nonno lavorava infatti alla Breda di Sesto San Giovanni da cui sono stati deportati circa 360 operai. Per questo potrebbe essere stato segnalato dalla polizia segreta del fascismo come partigiano o sobillatore. Dai documenti in mio possesso risulta appartenere alla Brigata Diomede coe attivista sindacale in Breda della sezione 1.

Giacomo Sala, mein Großvater mütterlicherseits, wurde in Agrate geboren. Im März 1944 wurde er im Mailänder Gefängnis San Vittore inhaftiert und am 17. März 1944 nach Mauthausen deportiert, wo er am 20. März 1944 ankam. Im Konzentrationslager wurde mein Großvater unter der Nummer 59116 registriert. Er wurde in das KZ Gusen überstellt, wo er am 1. Februar 1945 verstarb.

1943 kam es in den Fabriken im Norden Italiens, insbesondere in Mailand und in Turin, zu Streiks. Mein Großvater arbeitete in Breda di Sesto San Giovanni, wo er zusammen mit rund 360 Arbeitern wegen der Streiks deportiert wurde. Ich bin im Besitz von Unterlagen, die belegen, dass er als Gewerkschaftsfunktionär Teil der Diomede Brigade in der Sektion 1 in Breda war. Er wurde daher von der faschistischen Geheimpolizei als Partisan und Querulant im Gefängnis San Vittore in Mailand inhaftiert und danach zuerst nach Mauthausen und später nach Gusen I deportiert, wo er wahrscheinlich als Facharbeiter in den Produktionsstätten arbeitete. Von der Gedenkstätte Mauthausen (Sterberegister des Krankenreviers in Gusen) erfuhren wir, dass er in der Baracke 8 zusammen mit anderen italienischen Häftlingen wie etwa Lodovico Barbiano di Belgiojoso und Ettore Galimberti untergebracht war. Barbiano di Belgiojoso überlebte und schrieb nach seiner Rückkehr nach Italien mehrere Bücher über sein Leben im Konzentrationslager und über seine Mitgefangenen. Unter anderem schrieb er auch über Giacomo Sala.
