Max Bornstein 1924 - 1945 Edit

Born 8.6.1924 in Wien
Died 24.2.1945 in Gusen

Biography

I know very little about my uncle, as my mother, who survived Auschwitz, never told me about her family. The information I have is from what I was told by my uncle's classmates.

My uncle was born in Vienna, as was his sister before him (the first two daughters, including my mother, were born in Kraków), so I suppose that the family could afford a private hospital. He was born as the youngest son after three sisters.

I know that he was a pupil in the Hebrew School in Kraków which was on Brzozowa Street, but I don't have any more information about him.

When the Jews were forced to enter the Ghetto, both my grandparents with their four children moved there.

On 13 to 14 March 1943, the Ghetto was liquidated, and all the family was forced to move to the Plaszow concentration camp. There, Max Bornstein together with his father Lipman worked in a metal workshop.

My grandfather was deported to Auschwitz on 14 May 1944, and was murdered there. My uncle was deported to Mathausen, according to the information found in your archive, on 10 August 1944.
