Josef Paul Mikulski 1886 - 1940 Edit

Born 7.1.1886 in Gleiwitz / Gliwice
Died 7.2.1940 in Mauthausen

Biography

Josef Paul Mikulski was born on 7 January 1886 in Gliwice. He worked there for the metal industry. On 26 July 1910 he married Johanna Olbrich. They lived in Gliwice. The marriage produced five children, three sons and two daughters. One son died very young. The marriage ended in divorce in the early 1920s. For this reason there was no longer any direct contact between Josef Paul Mikulski and the other members of the family. For this and other reasons there is very little information about him.

Information on his internment[1]

10 March 1937: sent to Ettersberg concentration camp (from 28 July 1937 Buchenwald concentration camp). Citizenship: German. The index card written by the clerks’ office of Buchenwald concentration camp states: Worker – Invalid.

Unknown date: imprisoned in Sachsenburg concentration camp (note: According to our research, the Sachsenburg concentration camp was operational from 3 May 1933 to 9 September 1937).

6/7 August 1937: deported from Lichtenburg concentration camp to Buchenwald concentration camp. Prisoner number: 1109.

17/18 October 1938: deported to Mauthausen concentration camp. Prisoner number: 717.

7 February 1940: died at 3am in Mauthausen concentration camp. Cause of death: syphilis, heart attack.

My question, when and why my grandfather was sent to a concentration camp and who was responsible for this could not be answered due to missing entries in the documents.
