Mauricio Ribas Pujol 1908 - 1941 Editar

Maurici Ribas Pujol havia nascut a Manresa l’any 1908, al número 30 del carrer Montserrat, a les Escodines. Era fill d’Isidre i de Magdalena, i el més petit de cinc germans barons. Va fer el servei militar el 1929 i es va casar amb Carme Cristina Codina, de Torelló, el 1931. En produir-se el cop d’estat feixista de juliol de 1936 estava empadronat al carrer Major del Poble Nou núm. 127, baixos, amb la seva muller, de 24 anys, i el seu fill Isidre, de 2 anys. El Maurici treballava d’electricista a la fàbrica Vives S.A. La seva mare i dos dels seus germans feia uns anys que vivien a Besiers, a França. 

Durant la guerra va anar al front, integrat en una companyia de sapadors. Va travessar la frontera francesa durant el retirada republicana el 8 de febrer del 1939. Fou reclòs al camp de refugiats d’Agde, del qual en va poder sortir una temporada i ser acollit a casa del seu germà i de la seva mare a Besiers. Més tard, fou obligat a incorporar-se a una Companyia de Treballadors Espanyols (CTE) al servei de l’exèrcit francès. Va ser detingut pels alemanys el 22 de juny de 1940, en el moment de la invasió i la caiguda de França. Va ser presoner al Frontstalag 210, situat a Estraburg. 

Maurici Ribas formà part del grup deportat a Mauthausen el 13 de desembre de 1940, entre els quals hi havia els també manresans Bernat Toran, Jacint Carrió, Enric Cunill, Francesc Playà, Josep Pons i Pere Parés. A Mauthausen va ser el núm. 5.195. El 29 de març del 1941 fou traslladat a Gusen, amb el núm. 11.453. Hi va morir l’1 de novembre d’aquell any, als 33 anys. En el seu certificat de defunció hi apareix com a cuiner d’ofici. L’hora de la mort fou a les 8’15 i la causa, una «pneumònia». Deixava vídua i orfe. 

Aquell dia van morir una vintena més de republicans.

Maurici Ribas Pujol was born in Manresa in 1908, at number 30 Carrer Montserrat, in the Escodines neighborhood. He was the son of Isidre and Magdalena, and the youngest of five brothers. At the time of the fascist coup in July 1936, he was registered at 127 Carrer Major in the Poble Nou neighborhood, living with his 24-year-old wife and their 2-year-old son, Isidre. Maurici worked as an electrician at the Vives S.A. factory. His mother and two of his brothers had been living in Béziers, France, for several years.

During the war, he went to the front as part of a sapper company. He crossed the French border during the Republican retreat on February 8, 1939. He was confined to the refugee camp in Agde, from which he was temporarily released and taken in by his brother and mother in Béziers. Later, he was forced to join a Spanish Workers Company (CTE) serving the French army. He was captured by the Germans on June 22, 1940, during the invasion and fall of France. He was imprisoned at Frontstalag 210, located in Strasbourg.

Maurici Ribas was among the group deported to Mauthausen on December 13, 1940, which included other men from Manresa: Bernat Toran, Jacint Carrió, Enric Cunill, Francesc Playà, Josep Pons, and Pere Parés. At Mauthausen, he was assigned prisoner number 5,195. On March 29, 1941, he was transferred to Gusen, with the number 11,453. He died there on November 1 of that year, at the age of 33. His death certificate lists his profession as cook. The time of death was 8:15, and the cause was “pneumonia.” He left behind a widow and an orphaned child.

That same day, around twenty other Republicans also died.
