Born 1922 in Donja Gata
Died 20.12.1943 in Mauthausen

Biography

Jovo Radmanović was born in 1922 in the village of Mala Gata (Bihać). He grew up in this village, which consisted of around 30 houses. Jovo was the fifth child of Kosta Radmanović, who died in October 1941, and Kuna Radmanović, who had died already in January 1930.

There were seven children in total in the family. The oldest, his sister Mika (1910–1971), was born in 1910. Jovo’s brother Dušan (1912–1987) spent four years working on a German farm as a forced labourer. His sister Smilja died already before the war at the age of 17, and his brother Đuro was murdered by the Ustaše along with his cousin Vujo and his uncle Spase. Since his youngest sister, Danica, had died as a child at the age of four, today only his sister Bosa, born in 1926, is still alive. It was she who started to enquire about her brother and who told us, his family, the story of his life.

The Radmanović family was a peasant family. They owned around 3,040 sheep, a couple of cows, two horses, pigs and chickens. Jovo had always taken care of his little sister Bosa, since their mother died early. He loved to work with wood. His speciality was making small tables and chairs, he was good at that.

There were many people in the village of Gata with the name Radmanović. During the Second World War, around 15 men of the Radmanović family were deported and murdered.
