Biography

Wouter Kuyck is the son of a naval officer, captain ltz O. H. Kuyck. After he has served for twelve years as an officer in the navy, Wouter accepts in 1919 a function in the NV Dutch Telegraaf Maatschappij Radio-Holland Amsterdam. Later he is director. He begins to film in 1927. The family lives in the Dutch East Indies. In 1930 the family travels back to Holland. He becomes a member of the Haarlem Smalfilm Liga, where he is chairman in later years. In 1937 he is involved in the organization of the World Jamboree, where he makes a long color film. His last film Children in the war years dates back to 1941. In December 1943 he is arrested by the German occupying forces. After imprisonment in Herzogenbusch concentration camp (Vught) and Dachau he dies in December 1944 in the concentration camp of Linz, a subcamp of Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria.

On the basis of the footage of the family Kuyck two compilation films are made: In 1937 from Annelotte Verhaagen (2001), and With us everything good of Erik Willems (2008).
