Alojzy Tkocz 1910 - 1945 Edit

Born 12.8.1910 in Chwałowice
Died 23.4.1945 in Gusen

Biography

Alojzy was born on 12 August 1910 in Chwałowice in Poland. He was the son of Jan Tkocz. Alojzy was a member of The Polish Scouting and Guiding Association. He took part in the September Campaign (1939 Defensive War). He was a member of the Gray Ranks, Polish Military Organisation and a Union of Armed Struggle.

Alojzy and his seven siblings were always co-operating with The Polish Scouting and Guiding Association. Therefore at the beginning of WW II they immediately took some actions against the German occupier. They transported many books from the local library to their own house to lend them to local people during the War. They hid the scouting documents so that the Nazis wouldn`t identify the members of this organization.

Alojzy and his siblings were the editors of the Zryw magazine. They were also editing and distributing the patriotic leaflets. A short text from number 4 of the Zryw magazine remained:

Every day the victims of the German executioners are killed,

Every day the Poles are taken to the hearings

From which they never come back alive.

They need to be replaced

And the silent, punitive troups must stand

On behalf of the killed ones.

Today we all suffer,

Today we are all heroes.

We must gather all the spirit,

All the faith in the victory

Because the one who will survive

Will be free

And the one who died

Is free already.

We mustn`t doubt

We must be patient

The more faith we have, the more mature we get,

The faster Poland will rise.

Alojzy was arrested on 25 June 1943 in Mysłowice. Then Gestapo let him go, just to arrest him again on 13 July 1944 in hospital where he was after the accident at his workplace (coal mine). Alojzy was interrogated in prison in Mysłowice, then Nazis took him to Auschwitz, then to Gross-Rosen and finally to Mauthausen (18 September 1944) and Gusen (6 February 1945) where he was murdered on 23 April 1945 at 5.15 o`clock. The cause of the death was given as heart muscle weakness and general body decay. Alojzy's prisoner number was 105182.
